IV Sedation Dentistry in Red Deer

IV Sedation

IV sedation may help eligible patients feel more relaxed during certain dental procedures. The medication is administered through a vein, and the patient is monitored throughout the appointment.
A consultation and medical-history review are required to determine whether IV sedation is appropriate.

What is IV Sedation?

What Is IV Sedation?

IV sedation is used to help reduce anxiety and improve comfort during dental treatment. Patients are generally awake but deeply relaxed, and some may remember very little about the appointment.

IV sedation is different from general anesthesia. Our dental team will explain what to expect before treatment.

Who May Consider IV Sedation?

IV sedation may be considered for eligible patients who:
  • Experience significant dental anxiety
  • Have a sensitive gag reflex
  • Are undergoing a longer procedure
  • Require multiple treatments in one visit
  • Have difficulty remaining comfortable during treatment
IV sedation is not appropriate for everyone. Your medical history, medications and planned treatment must be reviewed first.

You will receive specific instructions regarding eating, drinking and medications before your appointment.
